I was born and raised in Banff, Alberta. Growing up everyone there rode trail bikes and snowmobiles in the National Park. Chapter 1 and my first bike was a Honda CT70 Trail and I was 13 years old. The day I turned 14, I got my Learner's Permit [for a vehicle] as well as my motorcycle license [up to 100cc]. The little Honda allowed me absolute freedom on the Park roads and trails [couldn't get away with that now]. Two years later my next bike was a new 1974 Yamaha Enduro100 Trail followed by a Honda XL125 Trail a couple years after that. Then, at 18, I was hit by a car on Banff Avenue while on the XL125 and my motorcycling days ended for the next 25 years. The poor bike did not survive.

Then I decided to ride again, but what to ride? I had been enamoured by the Yamaha VMax since it's roll out in 1985. It was one of those unique looking bikes that was not everyone's cup-o-tea.
So in Chapter 2, I found Mad Max at ProAm Motorcycles. It was a new 1999 model which had been in the showroom up until 2001, at which time I adopted it. It has a few mods but mostly stock and is pristine. It'll punch you in the chest when you wind it up between gear changes [at 6000 rpm the VBoost kicks in and wants to pull your arms out of their sockets]. It's a true muscle bike with a great history....

Chapter 3 is when I met Craig and bought his 2005 VStrom in 2007. The first year we had the bike, we put 15,000 km on it riding two-up. It really is the perfect bike and I did not realize how much I had missed riding gravel backroads and trails until the Wee Strom. Adventure riding re-opened a new chapter for me and my wife, Solveig.

Chapter 4 is beginning right now as we have ordered a 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere, full-load from the factory. The Tenere has a great history behind it, as an earlier version has been around Europe for many years. So we'll hurry up and wait for it's delivery in June. See you soon, either on Mad Max or the Super Tenere.
